Preparation for 24 Hour Read-A-Thon

As some of you might know, I’ve decided to participate in next weeks 24 Hour Read-A-Thon and I’ve managed to talk my pal Amy into joining me in an effort to tackle our never-ending backlist of books. That’s right, I call the books on my bookshelves my backlist of books – don’t judge me. There has been a lot of planning, but I think we’ve both planned a great arrangement of books.

Here are the books Amy is planning on reading:

I think the key is biting off more than you can chew so that you always have selection. Lucky for both of us, we work in publishing, so we’re both fortunate to have many selections. Up next, here are the books I’ve chosen to read:

As you can see, my physical books list isn’t too bad, but then when you start browsing through my Kindle, that’s a whole other story! Needless to say, I don’t think either of us will be in a shortage of reading material.

If you have yet to sign up for the 24 Read-A-Thon, you can do so here. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it’s tons of fun!

Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-Thon

I love participating in the Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-Thon every year because it gives me an opportunity to chip away at my ever growing reading pile. Also, it’s super fun and the folks operating the Read-a-Thon always round up a bunch of cheer-leaders who leave wonderful and encouraging comments to help you keep on trucking.

Now for the details! This year the Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-Thon will be on April 21st and all the start times are listed here.

This year, my friend Amy and I are going to do the challenge together to help encourage each other, make sure the other drinks something other than Red Bull and help keep the other one awake. We’ll be posting updates, making videos, participating in the mini challenges and trying our best to go for the whole 24 hours!

Be sure to sign up here and join the fun!

The Joy of Books

I have many guilty pleasures… Jersey Shore, chocolate, Cosmo magazine, but two of my guiltiest pleasures are books and You Tube. When their powers combine, you get this amazing clip of pure happiness. My thanks to Type Books, located here in Toronto who made this amazing video possible.

Be sure to follow Type Books on Twitter for lots of bookish updates!

Random House of Canada’s “Random Reader Challenge”

Happy New Year! A New Year brings on new challenges, such as more exercise and less chocolate, but it can also present new reading challenges. One of the challenges I’m really excited to help organize and participate in, is Random House of Canada’s: Random Reader Challenge!

The premise behind the challenge is that RHC will be hosting reading challenges over the year. The first challenge is to read one of the following Historical Fiction books:

The Winter Palace by Eva Stachniak
The Virgin Cure by Ami McKay
The Paris Wife by Paula McLain
Midwife of Venice by Roberta Rich
The Salt Road by Jane Johnson
Madame Tussaud by Michelle Moran
Anything in the Outlander or Lord John series by Diana Gabaldon

You’ll have until February 29th to read the books listed above. Once you’ve finished the book, go to the Random House Blog Challenge Post and submit the link to your review and you could win a really great prize that you can read about here!

So be sure grab the button to the left and enter a historic world that will capture your attention on the first page.
